  1. Creative PnP Configuration Manager Readme File

  4. This file contains important information regarding the installation
  5. of Creative Plug and Play (PnP) cards using Creative PnP Configuration
  6. Manager (CTCM) and Creative PnP Configuration Utility (CTCU).
  7. Please read all the sections here before you proceed to install
  8. this configuration driver and utility set.
  9.  
  10. The information here is organized into the following sections:
  11.  
  12.    1. Configuring Your Card in Windows 95 DOS Mode
  13.    2. If You Have Another Configuration Manager
  14.    3. If You Have Legacy Cards In Your System
  15.  
  16. NOTE: For more information on using CTCU or CTCM, please refer
  17.       to the sections "Using CTCM" and "Using CTCU" in your manual
  18.       or "DOS/Windows 3.x & Windows 95 DOS Mode Plug and Play
  19.       Installation Tips" leaflet.

  22. 1. CONFIGURING YOUR CARD IN WINDOWS 95 DOS MODE
  23.  
  24.    To enable your PnP card to work properly in a Windows 95 DOS Mode 
  25.    session, you need to do two things:
  26.  
  27.    a. First, make sure that this card is configured properly in the
  28.       windows environment of Windows 95.
  29.  
  30.    b. Next, run CTCM in a Windows 95 DOS Mode session.
  31.       CTCM will configure your card according to the settings given
  32.       in Windows 95.
  33.  
  34.  
  35.    To check whether your PnP card has been properly configured in 
  36.    Windows 95:
  37.  
  38.    a. Click the "My Computer" icon in Windows 95 with your right mouse 
  39.       button. A shortcut menu will appear.
  40.  
  41.    b. Choose the "Properties" option. The Properties dialog box will 
  42.       appear.
  43.  
  44.    c. Select the "Device Manager" tabbed page. A list of the devices 
  45.       in your system will appear.
  46.  
  47.    d. Select the right device type, e.g., "Sound, video and game
  48.       controllers", "Modem", or "CD-ROM controllers". A list of all 
  49.       the devices in that category will appear. Your PnP card is not 
  50.       properly configured if you see a yellow "!" sign on the card's 
  51.       icon.

  54.    To reconfigure your PnP card in Windows 95, if you see a yellow "!" 
  55.    sign on your PnP card icon:
  56.  
  57.    a. Click that device and check its device status to find out what 
  58.       went wrong. Solve the problem and then restart your computer in 
  59.       Windows 95 to reconfigure your card.

  62. 2. IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER CONFIGURATION MANAGER
  63.  
  64.    CTCM can work with or without another configuration manager in your 
  65.    system.  
  66.  
  67.    However, if you already have a different configuration manager
  68.    installed in your system, you should check your CONFIG.SYS file
  69.    after installing CTCM.  Please make sure that the statement which
  70.    invokes CTCM is placed after the statement that calls the other
  71.    configuration manager.

  74. 3. IF YOU HAVE LEGACY CARDS IN YOUR SYSTEM
  75.  
  76.    CTCM configures Creative PnP cards only. 
  77.  
  78.    If you have legacy cards in your system, you need to run CTCU
  79.    first, to inform CTCM about the hardware resources used by these
  80.    legacy cards. After that, you can run CTCM to configure your
  81.    Creative PnP card.
  82.  
  83.    Alternatively, if you do not know your legacy cards' settings, you
  84.    can use CTCU to change the settings of your PnP card. Then run CTCM
  85.    and test whether your card works properly.  This is a trial-and-error
  86.    method since CTCM will not be "informed" about the resources that
  87.    have been reserved by your legacy cards. You may need to try different
  88.    combinations of settings before you can configure your PnP cards
  89.    successfully, without any hardware conflicts with existing cards.
